“Conceptual Photography”

大学で日本文化を専攻し、東洋思想や
日本の心に深い関心を寄せる若きアメリカ人、
Adam Chamness（アダム・チャムネス）。

という、ちょっとひと味違った
「心の芸術」としての写真を指向している。

Conceptual Photography is akin to Found Art.
Traditional arts are processes of creation.
The content source is the artists'mind.
Conceptual Photography is a process of repurposing.
The content source is already OUT THERE.
The manner in which the photographer captures the content is
the measure by which his technical skill level can be ascertained.
The concept behind the repurposed image is the measure by which
it can　be evaluated as art.

「Conceptual PhotographyはFound Artと似ています。
伝統芸術は創造の過程です。
創造の根源は芸術家の心です。
写真を通しての芸術活動はそこに新たな意味を見出す過程です。
創造の根源はそこらじゅうにあります。
写真家各々の撮影方法で、
彼らの技術レベルを確かめることができます。
写真の裏側にある意味を見ることで、
その写真が芸術としての価値を測ることができます。」

I believe art is about ideas,not technical proficiency.
Everyone has ideas. YOU - have ideas.
The problem is the tools.
People have no confidence to use the traditional "art"tools.
Hence we have millions of repressed artists wandering around.
One day we'll have the technology of Brain Photography - instantly
capturing a mental image.
That'll be the end of it. The playing field will be leveled.
Everyone can be an artist,providing they have beautifully significant ideas.
And I believe most people do.

「芸術は技術の熟練度ではなく、考え方に伴うものであると信じています。
誰しも各々の考えを持っています。あなたも ― 自分の考えを持っています。
問題なのはその表現方法です。
人々は、伝統的な芸術手段を使用する自信が全くといっていいほどありません。
したがって、私たちの周りには何百万人もの抑圧された芸術家がさすらっています。
いつの日か私たちがBrain Photography（脳内にあるイメージを映し出す）技術を
持った時 ― 私たちは直接気持ちを表現することができるでしょう。
その時、芸術に技術はいらなくなります。全ての人の表現レベルは等しくなります。
美しく意味深い考えを持っているなら、誰もが芸術家になることができます。
そして、私はほとんどの人がそうなると信じています。」
